  I have a doctoral degree in applied mathematics from the University of Bergen (UoB). Since September 1st 2009 I have been working as a research scientist at Uni Research Climate, now NORCE Norwegian Research Centre. From 2011-2017 I was leading the research group in Climate Dynamics at Uni Research Climate. Currently I am working as a research theme leader in NORCE Climate on the topic “The global climate system, climate sensitivity and prediction”. From 2014-2017 I was also leading the research group on “Climate Model development and climate projections” at the Bjerknes Centre for Climate Research. My main research interest lies in understanding the natural variability of the climate system, both its internal variability and the response to external forcings such as volcanoes and solar irradiance. In particular,I am interested in how varying forcings relate to intrinsic (unforced) climate variability such as oscillations in the ocean´s deep thermohlaine circulation and atmospheric patterns of variability such as the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO). I have a wide experience in the use of basin to global scale isopycnal ocean models and coupled climate models, and I have authored several papers focusing on the role of the thermohaline circulation in the ocean for both past, present and possible future climates, and the role of volcanoes in the climate system.
